SEPTA officials shared Thursday that a card production issue was causing some student, senior, paratransit and reduced fare passes to be declined at subways, buses and Regional Rail locations.
The good news? The transit agency reports that the issue isn’t affecting riders who use standard SEPTA Key cards or contactless payments methods like credit cards, debit cards and Apple and Google Pay platforms. They also said cashiers, operators and Regional Rail staff are being instructed to allow customers to ride without disruption while SEPTA works with the card manufacturer on a fix.
The issue, SEPTA says, is that an incorrect expiration date was assigned to certain cards.
In other news, SEPTA is preparing to roll out sweeping changes to the names of its routes. They shared out a photo of new signage at City on social media earlier Thursday.
All this follows a busy fall, which included an averted strike and Pa. Gov. Josh Shapiro taking stopgap measures to close a funding gap that threatened to put the agency in a death spiral.
More recently, SEPTA rolled out an update to its smartphone app, which opened to mixed reviews.
